Abstract
The thyroid glands of five age groups of control rats as well as the thyroid glands of adult and old rats exposed to fracture stress were studied using light microscopy, electron microscopy and immunohistochemical technique . The morphology of the thyroid gland greatly varied with age. After exposure to fracture, the thyroid glands of adult rats showed signs of hyperactivity, whereas those of old rats were not activated.
