Abstract

This prospective study was done to compare between US color Doppler and MRI in evaluating adnexal masses .In this present study gray scale ultrasound showed sensitivity of 87.5%, specificity of 73.5%and accuracy of 75% for differentiation of malignant and benign adnexal lesions. The cut off values for PI and RI of Color Doppler were found to be: RI ≤ 0.4 & PI≤ 1.0 for malignant masses Using color Doppler as complementary to gray scale ultrasound in suspicious cases improved the specificity of ultrasound from 73.3% to 88.5%, and accuracy from 78% to 92% but it decreases sensitivity from 78.5% to75%. MRI in the present study showed higher specificity and accuracy than US, specificity of 82% and accuracy of 84%, MRI had the same sensitivity of ultrasound 87.5%. .MRI is superior in diagnosis of certain adnexal masses by its inherent signal characteristics .
