Abstract

A surprising long list of condition can mimic a lateral ankle sprain. These injuries should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any suspected sprain that does not improve with routine treatment. Careful history and accurate examination are the corner stone of accurate diagnosis of these injuries. Optimal results are achieved with early diagnosis and early treatment of these injuries. When treatment is delayed, patients tend to have a more complex clinical course.
