This study was carried on 80 patients with recurrent acute tonsillitis, who were randomly selected from those attending the E.N.T outpatient clinic of Kasr El-Eini hospital during the period from January 2001 to October 2002. All patients were evaluated before and 6 months after tonsillectomy as regards ventilatory function test, methacholine bronchoprovocation challenge test and serum IgE. It was concluded that tonsillectomy improves bronchial reactivity in hyperreactive patients, improves symptoms and reduces the number of upper respiratory tract infection.
