Abstract

The cut off point for leptin levels that could predict fetal birth weight more than 4 kgs was at 10.5 with 98 sensitivity and 100 specificity. On the other hand the cut off level of leptin at 25 was found to predict fetal birth weight of more than 4.5 kgs with sensitivity 91% and specificity 83% .Umbilical cord leptin and insulin levels were found to be higher in infants of diabetic mother LGA than of non diabetic mothers with LGA or appropriate for gestational age and lower glucose levels were found in infants of diabetic group. Leptin and insulin levels showed a strog significant correlation with birth weight in the whole population studied. Leptin levels were found to be higher in females than males despite insignificant difference between them.
