Abstract

This study was carried on 40 patients who were admitted to Kasr El Aini Hospital and Theodore Bilharz Research institute between December 1999 to 2001. The aim of the present study is to compare between the effectiveness of peritoneo-venous and lympho-venous shunts in the management of the intractable ascites. Cervical lympho-venous shunt appears a simple, safe, cheap maneuver to control the refractory ascites with negligible complications and if it failed we proceed to the expensive peritoneo-venous Denver shunt.
