Cardiomyopathies are now recognized as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality and their prevalence appears to be increasing. And more treatable cardiomyopathies are being identified owing to the advanced methods of diagnosis. The otherwise fatal cause of cardiomyopathy stresses upon the fact that we should search for concealed treatable causes of cardiomyopathies, among those are carnitine and antioxidant deficiency cardiomyopathies which are the focus of the present work. In an observational, case control study our study population included 49 cardiomyopathy cases and 35 age and sex matched controls all types of cardiomyopathy were included while patients suffering of other forms of heart disease, on oral L-carnitine therapy or receiving multivitamin therapy were excluded.
