Abstract

Primary hyperparathyroidism is the commonest cause of hypercalcaemia. Solitary adenoma is the commonest cause of Primary hyperparathyroidism (85%). The majority of patients are asymptomatic. Primary hyperparathyroidism mostly diagnosed with hypercalcaemia and elevated parathyroid hormone level. Parathyroidectomy is the most effective treatment for asymptomatic Primary hyperparathyroidism. The availability of MIBI scan, U/S and IOPTH essay are greatly facilitate surgical policy regarding unilateral neck exploration in PHPT.
