Abstract

It could be stated that, GBS colonization is not uncommon among pregnant females during the childbearing period. Alternative assays for screening of GBS colonization (antigen detection &PCR assay) have greatly increased sensitivities over the standard culture method recommended by CDC. The most accurate method was PCR assay followed by GBS antigen detection method which considered a rapid, cost effective and easy to perform method. Antibiotics susceptibility testing of GBS isolates should be considered to prevent emergence of antibiotics resistance among GBS strains.
