Abstract

The use of robots to manipulate surgical instruments inside the patient has already moved from the world of fiction to fact. Laparoscopic microsurgical tubal re-anastomosis, uterine hysterectomy, oophorectomy, endometriosis and other gynecologic surgeries can be performed using a remote-controlled robotic system. The robot, which has three-dimensional vision, allows the surgeon to perform ultraprecise manipulations with intra abdominal articulated instruments while providing the necessary degrees of freedom. Systematization of the operative steps allowed performance of the operation at a speed that compares favourably with the time needed for open microsurgical techniques with no complications. This essay will discuss the feasibility of robotic assisted laparoscopic surgery in gynecology for example the use of robot in performing tubal microsurgery and hysterectomy.
