Abstract

The purpose of this study was the evaluation of the oestrogen receptors (ER) expression in the normal as well as the pathological upper respiratory tract tissue in both genders to point out any sex-related difference, and to resolve whether or not these lesions were hormone-dependent. This study was conducted on 100 specimens from normal and pathological upper respiratory tract tissue. Sections from both control and patients groups were subjected to histologic examination, immunostaining for (ER) and examination by the fluorescence and confocal microscopy. This study explained the intimate relation between oestrogen hormone, contraceptive pills intake and the occurrence of some upper respiratory tract diseases.
