Abstract

The newborn baby realizes that he can influence his environment by making sounds, and movement. Then he develops gestures, actions and finally language. Attention has been given to the development relation between language and cognition. One of the most important cognitive based domains is symbolic play. Researchers have suggested symbolic play to assess the language potential as well as its use as a therapeutic tool. Most of the researchers support the view that language impaired children are deficient in their ability to play symbolically.
