Aim of the study The aim of this work is to decrease the magnitude of overweight and obesity among patients who follow a diet program to improve their health and life.Subject and MethodsThe study was designed to be interventional study conducted in a private clinic. This study aimed at targeting Egyptian persons (18-55 years old) who seek medical care at a private clinic and outpatient clinic at National Institute of Nutrition. Data were collected by by a special designated questionnaire completed by the investigator. Weight, height, waist circumference were measured according to standard procedures as well as blood pressure measurements for all the studied individuals. Blood examination was done for all studied group at the beginning of the intervention and at the end of the diet program.Results:There was a significant change in waist circumference depending in 1 variable which is junk food where the adjusted R² = 0.082and P=o.026 which means that this variable could explain 8.2% of the changes in waist circumference.On the other hand, by entering the data on step wise logistic regression, the only 2 variables which were effective in weight change were (junk food and family history of diabetes). The adjusted R² = 0.181and P=0.004, which mean 18% of weight changes were depending on junk food and family history of diabetesThe laboratory investigations done for the patients testing the main items of increased cardio-metabolic risk and 6 months after following weight loss program. There was a reduction in cholesterol level in both males and female by 58% respectively after a following the diet program with regular exercise. Similarly, there was a reduction in LDL by 45% among the patients and 36% improved their HDL. As well as triglyceride, there was a reduction by 54% as most of the patients were seeking healthy life style. ConclusionWeight reduction program was effective in inducing weight reduction and meeting the criterion of successful weight reduction in most of intervention group within 6 months period.The significant factors favoring weight reduction were compliance with diet regimen and practicing regular walking and other sports. Lastly, the most significant predictor of successful weight reduction was the cessation of bad dietary habits.
