Abstract
Strictures of the biliary system may be benign or malignant in origin. Benign biliary strictures typically occur as a result of surgery-induced injury. Endoscopic treatment for dominant strictures includes catheter dilatation, balloon dilatation, and insertion of stent or nasobiliary tubes. The most common site was the distal (49% retrospectively and 52% prospectively). The most common type was the malignant (74%). Successful endoscopic biliary drainage could be achieved in 80.8% retrospectively and 80% prospectively.
