Diverticular disease of the colon is a abnormlity of elderly. It is defined by the presense of characteristic muscular abnormality, usually associated with diverticulae.The clinical diagnosis of acute diverticulitis can be difficult, as it mimics numerous acute abdominal conditions. The classical pattern of left lower quadrant pain, tenderness, fever and leucocytosis is suggestive. Thus the role of radiological evaluation of diverticular disease is:•To confirm the diagnosis and distinguish it from other acute abdominal condition .•To assess the site and severity of pericolic extension and complications, to determine management . Different imaging modalities are used Double contrast barium enema has been the tarditional imaging study but the full extent of peritoneal involvement is underestimated CT has the ability of direct visualization of both mural and extra mural inflammatory disease compoent and staging of the disease so it is the initial imaging modality when complication are suspected.Ultrasonography can also be helpful in evaluation of diverticualr disease.
