Abstract

Childbirth is a universally celebrated event for thousands of women. The fundamental aim of the obstetrician is to deliver healthy women of healthy children. It is a recurring tragedy therefore that pregnancy and its complications still contribute on a worldwide scale, to death of women in the reproductive age group.Being an important issue, maternal mortality should be put into the consideration of different countries all over the world as it became nowadays one of the measurements and indicators of country development.Our study had studied maternal deaths in Al Mataria Teaching hospital and had found that hemorrhage still the most common cause of mortality there, on the side of health care deficiencies, shortage of blood still contributing in a high percent of female deaths.
