Abstract

Total hip replacement is the most successful procedures in surgery especially in elderly patients. By the mid 1970s, polyethylene prosthesis dominated and almost completely displaced all metal systems. Now, it has become evident that the major threat to the longevity of total hip replacement is the biologic reaction to polyethylene debris. Metal on metal articulation produces less inflammation, it preserve the femoral bone stock and norma bone biomechanics and stability.
