Abstract

Virtual Bronchoscopy is a new non invasive technique that display an internal view of the trachea and bronchus without the need of endoscopy. It is a type of 3 D reconstruction in which The observation point is placed with in the air way to produce an endoscopy like display without the use of endoscope.33 patients were examined in the radiology department new pediatric hospital. Cairo University between June, 2002 and February, 2003. Virtual Bronchoscopy images were reconstructed from axial CT scan images obtained from spiral CT examination of the chest on a separate workstation using special software.Seven normal subjects were examined in the study group. The examination was tolerated by all the children.Different Tracheobronchial lesions were diagnosed using this technique and were compared with other investigations for confirmation as rigid and fiberoptic bronchoscopy and surgical data.
