In Egypt, total number of population was around 81 million with youth percentage of 49, 85%. Premarital care is the promotion of the health and well-being of a woman and her partner before pregnancy. Recently, premarital examination became mandatory in Egypt. The main objectives were assessment of health status among couples attending mandatory premarital examination and identify contributing factors that may affect marriage and child-bearing. This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study. A systematic random sample composed of 200 couples was included. A pre-designed structured questionnaire has been used to collect data. Appropriate statistical methods of analysis were applied. Study sample showed a relatively high socio economic status of prospective mothers, may be due to urban nature of studied sample. Rh was negative in 7.25 % of participants and nearly equal in both males and females. Anemia accounted for 10.5% of studied couples ( 9% males and 12% females).Laboratory investigations were done on a sub sample of 25% proved that hepatitis B, C, and HIV accounted for 1%, 1% and1% respectively; with 2 query cases for HIV. Recommendations were put to stress this important part in comprehensive maternal care program in order to reduce future pregnancy wastage.
