Abstract

Retinopathy of prematurity is the leading cause of blindness during childhood. It's a multifactorial disease, but birth weight and gestational age have been accepted as a major risk factors. The strategy for managing ROP is to detect the disease in its early stage by a reliable evidence-based screening protocol, prevention of premature labors, oxygen monitoring and operative management when needed.
