Abstract

Obesity now is considered one of the major health problems allover the world. There are many metabolic markers in the body for obesity. They are classified into central or peripheral hormones which can be also classified as orexigenic and anorexigenic hormones. Examples are bombesin, leptin, adiponectin, pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC), neuropeptide Y (NPY), peptide YY and ghrelin. These hormones interact together to control body weight. Most of them are either therapeutically used or under trials as therapeutic target for treatment of eating disorders.
