This study showed the excellent capabilities of magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of occult foot infections due to its multiplanar capabilities, its ability to differentiate the infected soft tissues from the normal tissues and its ability to detect early bone and bone marrow involvement. It also showed the ability of MRI to differentiate bacterial infections from fungal infections. MRI capabilities exceed radiography, CT and radionuclide bone scans in the diagnosis of different types of occult foot infections.
