Systemic lupus erythematosus is a multisystem, autoimmune, connective tissue disorder. Involvement of the nervous system by systemic lupus is one of the most profound manifestations of the disease and it encompasses a wide variety of neurological and psychiatric features. This study was conducted with the aim at assessment of some the psychiatric disorders in patients of SLE mainly the internalizing and externalizing disorders and to determine the relation between the corticosteroid therapy and disease activity with these psychiatric disorders. 40 SLE patients, at the Rheumatology clinic, Specialized Cairo University Pediatric Hospital, were included in this study we found that the prevalence of internalizing disorder in SLE patients was 77.5%and Depression and anxiety disorders were the most common internalizing disorders in SLE(40%). And the prevalence of externalizing disorder was 12.5% Attention deficit disorder was the most common externalizing disorders in SLE(37.5%). There is strong relation between the systemic disease activity and the internalizing and externalizing disorders. No obvious relation between the corticosteroid (dose and pulse therapy) and the internalizing and externalizing disorders.
