Abstract

Anesthesia for cataract surgery has undergone tremendous changes and advancement in the last century. It started with general anesthesia techniques, and then injectable anesthesia (retrobulbar, peripulbar) was described. Now topical anesthesia is introduced for phacoemulsification cataract surgery and IOL implantation.Both injectable and topical anesthesia has their own advantages and complications. Then selection which type of anesthesia is preferred in phacoemulsification depends on the type of patient, type of eye, type of cataract and the doctor’s experience
