Abstract

Objectives: The study aimed at evaluating the measurement of serum levelof NSE, TPS and HGF in combination with PSA and f/t PSA in cancerprostate patients to assess their diagnostic value and to predict the prognosisin such patients, as well as to selecting the best combination of thesesmarkers to improve the diagnostic accuracy of serum PSA.Subjects and Methods: The study recruited a total of 72 malepatients.Group 1:Comprised 26 patients having benign prostatic hyperplasia.Group 2: Comprised 21 patients having localized prostate carcinoma. Group3: Comprised 25 patients having metastatic prostate carcinoma. All patientswere subjected to measurement of serum PSA, fPSA, NSE, HGF and TPSalong with pathological examination of prostate biopsy obtained by TRUSResults: A statistical significant differences was found between the studied3 groups as regards PSA, f/t PSA, TPS and HGF (P = 0.000, 0.004, 0.004,0.047) respectively. In the malignant group, correlation between the studiedparameters showed a statistical significant positive correlation between tPSAand HGF (r=0.471, P=0.001). Serum TPS showed statistical significantcorrelation with HGF (r=0.35, P=0.016) and with serum levels of NSE(r=0.82, P=0.000). On constructing (ROC) curve using tPSA, F/T, NSE,TPS and HGF, it yielded AUCs of 0.739, 0.707, 0.429, 0.634 and 0.635respectively.Conclusions: High NSE levels are of prognostic significance in patientswith metastatic PCa treated with androgen withdrawal therapy. TPS may beused in overcoming the relative insensitivity of PSA in some of hormonallytreated patients. HGF could be used as a diagnostic and prognostic marker ofPCa.
