The immune system is an organization of cells and molecules with specialized roles in defending against infection. Neutrophil phagocytic functions play an important role in host-defense mechanisms through the uptake and destruction of infectious pathogens and contributes to inflammation and the immune response. The aim of this work is to study the effect of sex of newborn gestational ages, birth weights , maternal diseases (Preeclampsia, diabetes mellitus) ,and mode of delivery on the neutrophil phagocytic functions ( Phagocytosis ,Nitro blue tetrazolium ) . The neutrophil functions(phagocytosis of candida , NBT ) were not influenced by the sex of the newborn, and were affected by mode of delivery , gestational ages ,and maternal diseases.
