The noninvasive recognition and management of ischemic diastolic dysfunction has the potential to improve the prognosis. While echocardiography has been the mainstay of diagnosis, CMR has shown increasing potential to define diastolic properties of the heart by assessment of trans- mitral flow pattern. Also, left atrial size represents the integration of LV diastolic performance over time and is considered a reliable indicator of the duration and severity of diastolic dysfunction, regardless of whatever loading conditions are present at the time of the examination.
