Abstract

Chronic chest trouble is the most common cause of chronic illness in childhood population. Thirty patients with chronic chest troubles as well as fifteen healthy control subjects were studied using echocardiography. Trans-thoracic two dimensional (2D) guided (Mode) and Doppler echocardiograph was performed for all patients. Results obtained by echocardiography showed statistically significant difference between patients and controls for most of the parameters concerning the right ventricle. The duration of illness correlated significantly with most of parameters measured for the right ventricle. This confirms that echocardiography is a simple practical and cheap diagnostic tool for evaluation of right ventricular function.
