Abstract

Vulvo-vaginal candidiasis (VVC) remains one of the most common infections of the femalegenital tract. The aim of this study was to establish phenotypic and genotypic identification ofCandida species isolated from women with VVC and study antifungal susceptibility. The resultsshowed C. albicans was the predominant specie (60.3 %) isolated from VVC, while non-albicansCandida species presented only (39.7%). From this study it shows that a combination of biochemicalmethods and PCR-RFLP identify most of the isolates. In vitro resistance was recorded for someantifungal drugs, fluconazole (11.1%), voriconazole (7.9%) and amphotericin B (1.6%).
