Abstract

Background: Helicobacter pylori colonizes over 50% ofworld population, yet less than 20% of those infected individualswill develop a gastroduodenal disease. H.pylori colonization is themost common cause of chronic gastritis & is etiologicallyassociated with duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastricadenocarcinoma, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT)lymphoma. Gastroduodenal diseases associated with H.pylori aremanifested principally in adults. However, it is usually duringchildhood that the infection is acquired.
