Abstract

The hemolytic-uremic syndrome is a disorder that usually occurs in pediatric age group, it consists of a triad of acute renal failure, thrombocytopenia, and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia associated with distorted erythrocytes. This study included retrospective hospital based data collection from cases of HUS among children hospitalized in the pediatric departments, Hospitals of Cairo, Ain Shams, Azhar, and Mansoura Universities. The study summarizes the clinical and laboratory findings in these patients as well as the treatment received and the outcome. Predictors of a poor prognosis and long term outcome were elucidated. It draws attention to the magnitude of this health problem in Egypt and its characteristics.
