The work is prospective study on 106 patients attending the chest clinics or admitted in the inpatients sections of Children Hospitals Cairo University, under the age of 12 years and suffering from chronic persistent cough lasting more than 3 weeks, in eight months duration starting from January 2003. Every patient was subjected to detailed medical history, complete physical examination and investigations which include routine CBC, ESR, tuberculin test, Chest X-ray, Stool analysis and other optional investigations. Tuberculosis and bronchial asthma were the most common causes of chronic persistent cough in pediatric age group.
