Abstract

Toe-web infection is a common presentation in the dermatology outpatient clinics especially among diabetic patients. Our study aimed at determining the prevalence of different fungi in toe-web infections in diabetics in comparison with non-diabetic patients. It revealed that Candida spp. were the main isolates in both diabetic (75%) and non-diabetic patients (55%) with increased prevalence among diabetics. Dermatophytes were less commonly isolated (12.5% from diabetics and 15% from non-diabetic patients). T. mentagrophytes was the most prevalent dermatophyte species isolated in both groups.
