By increasing life expectancy, the elderly population increasing gradually allover the world and in Egypt. Being a family physician you should identify this group, their problems and needs to provide highly qualified services for them. Objectives: To identify the elderly population and their needs.To assess the system of elderly care provided through units. To assess the impression of the elderly about the services of family health units. Subjects and methods: This is a cross sectional study, carried out in two family health units in Qaliubiya governorate. The study sample consisted of 40 medical service providers (physicians, nurses and Raeda Refia) who completed a questionnaire about the elderly services they provide and 60 elderly clients. Every one of the clients filled another questionnaire which assessed the elderly services in general, his satisfaction and if other services are needed. Results: Out of the elderly interviewed clients 81.7% were females, lived inside the catchments area. Around 88.3% of interviewed elderly were attending the units asking for management of medical problems, which was regularly provided by the health workers. It was found that home visits were done only for registration of elderly numbers and chronic diseases. Only 15% of the interviewed clients were attending the health education classes at the unit. Immunization and social services were not provided, referral service was rarely provided. Conclusion and recommendations: the health providers need elderly care training programs based on Clinical Guidelines. Elderly care services at these facilities need strict follow up.
