The most common cause of dermatochalasis and steatoblepharon is the normal aging changes; but there are other possible causes. They can be a functional or a cosmetic problem to the patient. In the preoperative evaluation of the patient undergoing blepharoplasty the eyelid should be evaluated carefully. The presence of an upper eyelid crease should be noted and measured. Pre-and post-operative photographs are of extreme importance for both patient and surgeon. The techniques of upper and lower blepharoplasty include the skin flap approach, skin-muscle flap approach, and the transconjunctival approach. Regarding the intraorbital fat, some reports suggest that this fat could be preserved and mobilized to other areas to recontour the lower lid. Canthopexy and canthoplasty techniques allowed concomitant midface lifting and provided reliable methods of lid malposition prevention and repair. It has been shown that wound-healing results with octyl-2-cyanoacrylate are equivalent to those obtained by sutures.
