The major importance of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is that it is the determinant of the disciform process, which ultimately results in cicatrization, disciform scar formation and loss of macular function. The only proven effective treatment of CNV is laser photocoagulation, however; it has been demonstrated that only 13% of patients with CNV from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are eligible to treatment. Transpupillary thermotherapy has emerged as a recent advancement for treating occult subfoveal CNV in patients with AMD. At 810nm, the energy transmitted to the eye penetrates to the choroid and RPE while minimizing absorption in the neurosensory retina. In this work we have evaluated the effectiveness of TTT for treatment of CNV secondary to AMD & myopia; regarding its effect on both visual acuity and fluorescein angiography.
