Abstract

The study aims at evaluating the Phaco Slice and Separate technique of Arshinoff as regards the efficiency and complications. This study included 40 eyes of 37 Egyptian patients classified into 2 groups: Group A: 30 eyes operated with phaco slice and separate technique. Group B: 10 eyes operated with phaco stop and chop technique (control group). Our data shows that the Phaco Slice and Separate technique is very efficient in reducing the phaco time and the total ultrasound energy applied to the corneal endothelium causing less endothelial damage. It is more effective in hard nuclei than soft nuclei, but it is difficult to be learned and has many complications regarding the danger on the anterior and posterior capsules, resulting in high incidence of vitreous loss.
