The aim of this work was to determine the effect of intracavernous aspiration/injection of cold saline as a simple outpatient method for treating prolonged penile erection resultig from intracavernosal injection of vasoactive agents. We treated 70 patients with prolonged penile erection after intracavernosal injection by aspiration/injection of increasing amount of saline at tempratures of 10oC, 15oC, 20oc and 37oC. We found high detumescence rate (96%) with low mean saline volume (42 + 25.74 cc) at saline temperature of 10oC and this result was superior to other groups. In conclusion, using 10oC saline for intracavernosal aspiration/injection for patients with prolonged penile erection is considered to be an effective and adequate method and better applied early within 4-6 hours. Also this method did not decrease the body temperature of patients or change blood pressure or heart rate.
