Abstract

Leptin is derived from Greek word (Leptos) which means thin. leotin the obese gene product , is a novel circulating hormone that is expressed abundantly in the adipose tissues . Plasma leptin levels correlated well with the percentage of body fat and body mass index in humans suggesting that leptin is a useful marker for body energy balance. Pre-eclampsia is an abnormality of pregnancy that is a leading cause of maternal mortality in developed countries. In pregnancy induced hypertension patients have high Leptin levels and that placental production of Leptin is increased.
