Extracranial application of Stereotactic Radiosurgery & Radiotherapy has been implemented, allowing precision radiation to be delivered exactly to tumors almost anywhere in the body while minimizing radiation exposure to healthy, normal surrounding tissues, aiming for higher tumor control rate and survival with fewer side effects. This innovative therapy can be used to many patients with cancers, which cannot be treated successfully using standard therapy or those with cancers that have recurred despite standard chemotherapy, surgery or radiation or to give a boost radiation dose after standard radiation. This work is an over-review and discussion of the role of stereotactic irradiation in treatment of extracranial neoplasms, identifying the different procedures, systems, radiobiological and physical aspects, cost benefit effect, as well as the clinical trials performed in this field.
