Abstract

Multiple sclerosis is a common heterogeneous disease that affects young adults. Proper clinical, radiological and immunological study may lead to the appearance of MS sub types ANN may help in prediction of relapses and its severity. Subject and methods :45 patients with relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis were subjected to thorough history analysis ,evaluation of multiple sclerosis functional composite, EDSS evaluation ,conventional spin echo and FLAIR MRI and assessment of matrix metalloproteinases-9. Results Age at onset of the disease in females was younger than males. The age of onset is significantly negatively correlated with the total number of relapses. Sixteen percent were having history of associated other possible autoimmune disease. This group was having elder age at onset. In spite of high frequency of parental consanguineous marriage (25%), the familial history of MS was small 4%. There is also family history of thyrotoxicosis in 9% of the cases. This group with +ve consanguinity showed more monosymptomatic involvement at the onset.T1 load may help in prediction of sever relapse.MMP-9 is high only during relapses.
