Abstract

In this thesis, the benefit of two stage flexor tendon reconstruction wasreviewed as a salvage procedure to restore the function of flexor tendons. In thefirst stage, a silicon prosthesis is implanted to form a tunnel sheath which canreceive the tendon graft in the second stage of reconstruction. Palmaris longusor plantaris are satisfactory tendon graft choices. A part from technicalversatility, additional advantages include using a local intrasynovial graft, theabsence of donor site morbidity and a low rate of post-reconstruction tendonrupture and tenolysis. Reconstruction of flexor tendons in two stages cansignificantly improve the function of lesioned fingers presenting extendedfibrosis or adherence of the flexor mechanism.
