Ankle fractures are among the most common types of fractures treated by orthopaedic surgeons there has been an increased prelevance of such fractures over the last two decades. The ankle joint is an interesting joint to study posttraumatic osteoarthritis, since the ankle rarely develops osteoarthritis in the absence of trauma but after trauma joint degeneration is common and severe. The objective of this study is to evaluate the functional outcome after operative management of malleolar ankle fractures, targeting at determining the factors on which the results depend and up the different variables, which can play a significant role in improving the results, to decrease the incidence of posttraumatic ankle arthritis.
