Abstract
Laser in situ Keratomileusis “LASIK” becomes a popular alternative in the management of refractive errors. LASIK involves the use of a microkeratome to create a corneal flap of a predetermined diameter and depth. The photoablation is made in the stromal bed then the flap is laid back down. There are several commercially available microkeratome systems used in LASIK. Studying different types of microkeratomes and comparing the cut edges and surface characteristics of corneas with respect to different microkeratome parameters are very important to minimize microkeratome related complications of LASIK.
