In this study, 30 type 2 diabetic patients with and without microalbuminuria, and a control group of 10 patients were compared as regards intima media thickness, and plasma level of von Willebrand factor “as a predictor of endothelial dysfunction”. Results showed that diabetic patients with microalbuminuria (17 patients) showed significantly higher fasting blood glucose, post prandial blood glucose, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, low density lipoprotein, microalbuminuria, intima media thickness(p=0.0004), and von Willebrand factor(p=0.004),and a significant lower level of high density lipoprotein compared to those without microalbuminuria (13 patients). Also patients with high intima media thickness showed significantly higher level of microalbuminuria (p=0.007), and von Willebrand factor (p=0.012) compared to those with normal intima media thickness.
