Introduction : Varicose veins represents a major problem all over the world with variable incidence between different countries, occupations, ages and genders. This work aims to asses the safety and efficacy of endovenous saphenous vein obliteration with radiofrequency and to compare endovenous saphenous vein obliteration with conventional stripping operation.Patients and Methods : The study includes 20 patients presenting with great saphenous vein varicosities. The disease was bilateral in 6 patients giving a total number of 26 limbs with primary great saphenous vein reflux. All patients were candidate for saphenofemoral disconnection and radiofrequency ablation of their great saphenous vein varicosities (RF ablation group). This group of patients (RF ablation group) were compared with another group of patients which were subjected to saphenofemoral disconnection and great saphenous vein stripping (stripping group) 23 patients (30 limbs). All patients were assessed preoperatively by clinical examination and duplex scanning. Conclusion : The result of this study revealed that the radiofrequency endovenous obliteration is as effective as but les invasive than saphenofemoral disconnection and stripping.
