This study aimed to explore the effectiveness and the safety of the misoprostol in labor induction. 100 women with full term and post term pregnancy, received 50 mg misoprostol placed in the posterior vaginal fornix repeated after 4 hours if Bishop score < 4 for maximum of 4 doses or until labor was established. 90% of cases delivered vaginally, the mean induction – delivery interval was 9.66 + 4.04 h ), active labor occurred in 70 % of them & only 30 % needed oxytocin augmentation .Maternal complications were minimal mainly intrapartum tachysystole (12%). All new born had apgar score 6- 9 at 1st and 5th minute. misoprostol is an effective drug for inducing labor & the use of lower doses decrease the incidence of maternal & fetal complications.
