Abstract

This study is a prospective cohort study conducted in Nasser Institute for Research and Treatment Hospital during the period from April 2011 to December 2011. The aim of this work is to study the glycemic status after acute stroke and to assess the role of glycemic status in influencing the stroke outcome the study included a total of 61 patients presented with acute cerebrovascular stroke within 24 hours from onset of symptoms. The study population was predominantly males (60.7%), with a mean age of 62.9 ± 10.5 years (range from 41 to 85 years). The study population was divided into two groups according to the admission glycemic status; group I (20 patients as a control group) and group II (41 patients with hyperglycemia).
