Abstract

This study included 20 cancer patients receiving chemotherapy who complained of local fungal infections. The study also included ten age matching healthy persons as a control group. Cultures on Sabouraud-dextrose-agar for all patients were done. For all subjects, Myeloperoxidase level in plasma was estimated using EIA technique. Also, a conventional PCR technique was used to investigate the presence of Candida DNA in blood of both patients and control subjects. Our results showed that all patients had lower levels of myeloperoxidase enzyme in comparison to control group. Also by comparing the Absolute Neutrophil Count in both groups, it was lower in the patient group than the control group.
