Abstract

The LYL1 gene identified by non-random chromosomaltranslocation t(7;19)(q35;p13) associated with T-cell acute lymphoblasticleukemia (T-ALL), was mapped to the short arm of chromosome 19(19p13) by in situ hybridization.LYL1 is required for fetal and adult hematopoietic stem cellfunction and B-cell differentiation. LYL1 may play a very important rolein leukemogenesis.Over expression of LYL1 is implicated in the pathogenesis of TALLas well as myeloid malignancies. The LYL1 protein is atranscription factor (TF), structurally and functionally similar to anotherbHLH protein TAL1/SCL which is also implicated in T-ALL. Theirexpression may have clinical relevance and important role as risk andprognostic factors in acute leukemia. They may be useful as predictivetest for treatment outcome in acute leukemia patients.
